At last, having not ridden the bike in this horrible snow, it's taken me an extra four weeks to finally go over the 1000 kilometer mark.
So here goes its second oil change, 1000k is a good time to do this as the engine and piston rings should be bedded in well at this stage, so any bits of metal or gunge will be floating around in the filter.
As if by magic, there stuck inside the filter was indeed some fine bits of metal and crud! Although the hardest part was removing the filter nut - the Chinese have decided this is a job for 'professionals' as the spanner size is approximately 27mm - who has one that big?!!! Alright, I did use an adjustable wrench but it's quite a tight fit to get the wrench in, where as a socket would fit perfectly! Oh, and I assumed the oil filter nut would be spring-loaded so was prepared for it to jump out at me!
The oil that drained out of the sump was pretty ok and could easily do another 1000k but the point of this exercise is to rid the engine of all those bits that could work their way back up to the piston rings and cause a major dent in your wallet as well as engine casing!
I have taken pics of how I changed the oil and the tools I used in the 'WORKSHOP' section on this website - it may be of some use to some of you out there!
Don't forget to wash all that road grit & salt of your machine over winter, it rots everything!
